Getting More Power
Out Of Your Swing
Ask yourself this question: “Where does the power come
from in a golf swing?”
Everyone would like it – but very few understand
how to get it. Despite
what you may think you know on the topic, the fact is very simple. Power comes
from the release of two specific “Power Angles” in the swing.

Image 1 |
The 1st Angle: This angle is created at the top of the back swing
by a straight left arm and the club shaft at 90 degrees (Note: This
refers to a right handed golfer. The reverse is true for those
who play the game left handed). This type of position at the top
of the backswing will get you in a good “power” position. See
image #1.
The 2nd Angle: The second angle is created by bending the right
elbow to 90 degrees at the top of the backswing. See Image #2.

Remember, this is all setting you up for a more powerful swing. The
actual power itself is generated by “releasing” these two
angles. What is the “release”? This is a term
in golf jargon that is often misunderstood. “Releasing” in
a golf swing refers to moving form a bent position to a straight position.

During this straightening of the angles, the golf swing gains speed until
it reaches its fastest point of motion. This point should be the
position at which the angles are no longer bent and become a straight
line. Power in the swing comes from the bending and straightening
of these two power angles.
If you would like to learn more about the golf swing, private and group
lessons are available year round at Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club. Instruction
